RECAB works with ESS on embedded computer systems

High performance and flexible systems means that RECAB’s solutions have caught the interest of the Big Science organisations.

For many years, RECAB has delivered embedded computer systems for demanding applications, primarily within the telecommunications industry. In 2012, the company met engineers from the European Spallation Source, which at the time was in its early stage.

- Back then, we met with people from ESS at technology meetings, where we discussed how the technology we work with could meet the needs of ESS, says Brian Ulskov Sørensen, Country Manager & Engineering Director at RECAB.

Some of the primary features of RECAB’s microTCA solutions are high performing standards, high computing performance and high flexibility, which means that it fits into several applications. Also, the standards have matured so much, that big science organisations can develop their own elements and modules for the system.

- With ESS, we began by supplying the systems we already had and concurrently developed new modules, which they needed, says Brian Ulskov Sørensen.

RECAB are today supplying ESS with three microTCA based systems for the projects LLRF (Low Level Radio Frequency), BPM (Beam Position Monitor) and BLM (Beam Loss Monitor).

One of the areas that RECAB is very focused on, in terms of creating new big science contacts, is to be present at European big science events. This year, the company joined BigScience.dk at the Danish stand at the Big Science Business Forum and next year, they will present their services at the ITER Business Forum.

- Events like these are a great place for us to meet new contacts and cooperation partners and exchange knowledge with others about this exiting market area, says Brian Ulskov Sørensen.
